two days ago, on the tram in göteborg, an old swedish woman paused my friends and me in the midst of our conversation to ask where we were from. when we told her we were americans, she replied, “i just want to tell you that i think that you people are very nice, and i want to wish you a very merry christmas.” scandinavia, you’ve got a fierce grip on my heart.
